Collage Screenprints
HENI presents Collage Screenprints by Sir Brian Clarke, a series of limited-edition silkscreen prints based on collage works that Clarke conceived and completed in the final months of his life. Nocturne in Blue is the first release in a series of forthcoming screenprints. The remaining prints are planned for release over the next few years.
HENI is committed to celebrating and recognising Brian’s legacy.
The Nocturne in Blue edition is a 32-colour silkscreen print with gloss varnish on Somerset Satin White cotton paper and is presented in a stained and oiled tulipwood frame. The work measures 80 x 60 cm (framed) and is priced at $1,500 (plus applicable taxes). Each work is hand-signed by the artist on the front and hand-numbered.
Nocturne in Blue is based on a 2024 work on paper by Clarke, in which he turned to the incredibly intimate format of collage to capture the nature around him. Using his scissors to “draw from life”, Clarke translated elegantly arranged blooming buds onto paper. From a vibrant blue vase, expressive pink flowers and verdant green leaves emerge, the liveliness of their forms emphasised by the visible fluidity of the paint.
Collage had always been central to Clarke’s career, including in the creation of his stained glass. Reflecting on the significance of the medium, Clarke commented, “Collage was, in a way, a key that unlocked the door that led to a new kind of freedom. A freedom in which we were no longer concerned with how things appeared, but just how things were.”
Nocturne in Blue from Collage Screenprints is on display at the HENI Gallery until 8th December. The edition can also be seen in a window installation at 29–35 Lexington Street, Soho.
