Screens
Brian Clarke’s folding screens of stained glass are a radical and historically significant development in the history of the medium and its technology. The intention of the ongoing series, which began in 2015, was to take stained glass out of religious, monumental and institutional sites and bring them into the museum, gallery and, ultimately, the home. Clarke’s choice to produce these pieces as screens rather than windows lightens the medium once again, the artform placed in one’s own space rather than restricted by the rules of architecture.
