Brian Clarke’s ‘Tune in, Turn on, Drop out’ (G2-8, 2017) is a stained glass folding screen for 2017, its title borrowed from a 1960s counterculture slogan. This sentence, first popularised by the writer and advocate of psychedelic drugs Timothy Leary, encouraged people to embrace cultural changes by disavowing traditional social conventions and hierarchies. In Clarke’s artwork, yellow oak leaves float over a bright blue background, those rendered in darker shades simulating overlaps and shadows to provide a sense of depth.
