Depicting a stock market trading screen complete with real product names and exchange rates, Brian Clarke’s folding screen ‘Wall Street’ (G2-9, 2017) unexpectedly translates this modern subject into the historical medium of stained glass. Imitating a flickering computer monitor, the stained glass panels are coloured in bright blues, pinks and reds, allowing viewers to inspect the details of text and numbers. Yet, darker shades of blue and pink streak the composition, revealing the artwork’s materiality.
