Stars and Stripes by Nicola Green

HENI is delighted to release Stars and Stripes, a series of five limited edition silkscreen prints by acclaimed artist and social historian Nicola Green.

Stars and Stripes serves as a celebration of how the impossible can be achieved when people come together; it serves as a call to reflect upon and recommit to the ideals of unity and equity. The five works present expressive hand gestures as symbols for social movements across time and place. Each work evokes a sense of hope and change, narrating the legacy of progress and inspiring its continuation.

The Stars and Stripes prints replicate original spray-painted, mixed-media collages. The prints were made using up to 15 individual screens to painstakingly replicate the textures and visual effects of the original works. Each print therefore retains the immediacy and vibrancy of wet paint, as though freshly applied, alongside the dynamism of the collage.

The works are framed silkscreen prints on Somerset Satin Cotton. The edition size of each print is limited to 25 (plus 5 APs) and they are priced at $2,000 (plus applicable taxes). Each work measures 68 x 51 cm (framed) and is numbered and hand-signed on the front by the artist.

The artworks are available exclusively by application on HENI Editions from 15 May until 26 May at 17:00 BST.

Heirloom by Nicola Green

To coincide with the release, HENI Editions also presents Heirloom by Nicola Green. Heirloom is a timeless tribute to our individual and collective strength and the legacies we carry forward. The piece focuses on the raised fist motif as an enduring global symbol of solidarity, evoking the efforts of diverse global revolutionary movements that have used it, from Mandela's Amandla, to anti-fascists, to feminist groups through history.

The artwork and its title refer to the value of what we pass down across generations, including our individual and collective struggles and shared spirit of “we shall overcome”. For Green, the raised fist is an important heirloom: it embodies her interest in legacy, what we leave behind for the next generation, and her determination as an artist to document important events for the future. The raised fist has been passed down through time, as one movement opens the door for the next; it is a symbol of our individual power and how each of us can harness it, starting within our own bodies.

Heirloom is a Jacquard Woven Tapestry with 24k gold thread, made in an edition of 8 (plus 2 APs). Each tapestry measures 260 x 190 cm and is numbered and hand-signed by the artist on the label.

The artworks are available exclusively by application on HENI Editions from 15 May until 26 May at 17:00 BST.

"As a white mother to mixed-heritage children, I have thought deeply about how my family experiences the world in ways that differ from my own. For the last twenty years I have dedicated my practice to witnessing pivotal moments and documenting them for future generations around the world. I have created work that visually explores our individual and collective stories. I believe art has a unique capacity to speak beyond words."
