Henry Moore's Vision
From a quaint hamlet in Hertfordshire, Henry Moore managed his global art presence. His bucolic home and studio, Perry Green, served not only as a refuge from the blitz in London but a profound source of inspiration.
Godfrey Worsdale guides us around this unique environment, today home of the Henry Moore Foundation, as he outlines the artist's early life, love of museums and fascination with nature. He shows the way Moore's influences span ancient and modern sources, his work rooted in the abstract and the real. Such was Moore's gift for translating these disparate ideas into sculpture, his works prompt us to re-examine the world around us. In this way, Moore 'shows us how to see'.

Trained as an art historian in London, Godfrey Worsdale's career began in the early 1990s at the British Museum, where he worked in the department of Prints and Drawings. In 1994 he established Cultural Instructions; an exhibition space in London dedicated to contemporary projects.
He joined Southampton City Art Gallery as a curator in 1995 and became its Director three years later. In 2002 he moved to the North East to become the founding Director of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, and then became the Director of BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in 2009.
During his seven years at BALTIC, Worsdale oversaw major solo exhibitions including Jenny Holzer, Daniel Buren, Lorna Simpson, Elizabeth Price, Jim Shaw and Anselm Kiefer. Under his direction BALTIC also hosted the Turner Prize in 2011, making it the first venue to host the prize outside Tate. He also founded BALTIC 39; a new space dedicated to research and experimentation, developed in partnership with Northumbria University.
In 2015 he became the Director of the Henry Moore Foundation and now divides his time between Perry Green in Hertfordshire where Moore lived and worked, and the Henry Moore Institute, Yorkshire, where he, like Henry Moore, grew up. Worsdale was awarded an OBE in the 2016 New Year's Honours list for services to the visual arts.
