Five Artists in the News: Glenn Kaino’s Power Staircase, Brancusi’s Endless Column and a Swiss Art Hotel For Sale

Washington, DC: Glenn Kaino’s Bridge, a sculptural homage to sprinter Tommie Smith's black power salute at the 1968 Olympics, has been unveiled at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Architect’s Newspaper reports.

Museums: Constantin Brancusi's Endless Column now has the status of a Unesco World Heritage Site along with his other sculptures that form Targu Jiu in Romania. The artist completed the landmark war memorial in the 1930s.

Market: The Hotel Furkablick, where Jenny Holzer, Daniel Buren and many other guest-artists left their mark in a Swiss mountain pass, is now on the market, Artforum reports.

Shows: Nan Goldin and Rana Begum are among the artists who have criticized the Royal Academy of Arts in an open letter. They condemn the institution for taking down works by young artists that reference the conflict in Gaza.

Shows: Nina Chanel Abney riffs on Andy Warhol’s soup cans to critique consumer culture. The Warholian homage is on view at Jack Shainman Gallery, Kinderhook, Surface reports.

London: White Cube has let go of 38 invigilators, most of them artists and students on zero-hours contracts. It will employ security guards instead, The Art Newspaper reports.
