Cherry Blossoms & Reverence, Revelation, Devotion
An exclusive slipcase publication enclosing two monumental catalogues raisonnés by British artist Damien Hirst: Cherry Blossoms (2021) and Reverence, Revelation, Devotion (2024).
Initially published for the exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, Cherry Blossoms showcases the complete collection of the 'Cherry Blossom' paintings. Devoting two years to their creation, by combining thick brushstrokes and elements of gestural painting that allude to Impressionism, Pointillism and Action Painting, Hirst produces 107 works of sheer vastness that are imposing in both form and theme, as he continues to be fascinated with the perpetual churn of beauty, life and death.
The second book, Reverence, Revelation, Devotion, brings together the entire collection of 144 previously unseen artworks from three interrelated series: ‘Reverence Paintings’, ‘The Revelations’ and ‘The Devotions’. By working on several paintings at once, applying layers to the canvases simultaneously, the result is a series of gestural abstract paintings produced through intuition and impulsiveness, following the immensity of ‘Cherry Blossoms’ (2018–2020) while also conveying something more primal – the innate wildness of artistic expression.
Featuring over 400 full-colour reproductions of the artworks and presented in two stunning large-format clothbound hardback books – designed by award-winning London design agency Atelier Dyakova – this luxurious two-volume collection brings together cultural voices across a multiplicity of disciplines, including philosophy, art history, art criticism, and curation.
Enclosed in an understated charcoal-black slipcase with gold foil lettering, this limited-edition publication is supplied within a bespoke protective shipping carton featuring a deluxe black velvet foam insert.
