History will be made in June when Sotheby's sells $200 million worth of art collected by British businessman Joe Lewis - the most valuable single collection ever offered in London.
Among the works included are Gustav Klimt’s society portrait, Bildnis Gertrud Loew, valued at $40 million and Egon Schiele’s Danae which is expected to fetch around $24 million.
Both will be included in a show of the collection's highlights at its New York HQ from Saturday before a pre-sale exhibition in London.
Lewis, who grew up in London's East End, tested the market in March when Sotheby's sold four other works from his collection in the UK capital for $48 million.
A spokesperson for the family collection said they had been "encouraged" by the success of the first sale but the sell-offs did not mean they had stopped collecting, adding: "our journey as collectors is far from over – we remain committed to the avant-garde painters of today, much of whose work is informed by the artists showcased here."
