More details have been released about the first-ever Frieze Abu Dhabi amid fears it may be affected by unrest in the Middle East.
Works by international artists including Sheila Hicks and Emily Kam Kngwarray will be on show alongside regional talent such as Abdullah Al Saadi, Mounirah Mosly and Samir Rafi.
The line-up, announced today, includes 89 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions at the fair which runs from November 19 to 22 in the Saadiyat Cultural District.
But it comes amid speculation the fair may be affected by instability in the region and the actions of Houthi rebels who attacked an airport in Saudi Arabia last week killing two people. One unnamed art collector told The Financial Times he would be “astonished” if the event goes ahead “in any meaningful way”.
In an upbeat statement, director Dyala Nusseibeh said the inaugural event would be "genuinely rooted in Abu Dhabi's cultural landscape, while bringing together extraordinary artistic practices across generations and geographies".
Dala Nasser, who won the inaugural Frieze Abu Dhabi Artist Award, will also show works including rubbings of ruins, tombs and rock surfaces across Western Asia.
