Marina Abramovic is currently in rehearsals along with more than 70 other performers ahead of the debut of her largest-ever performance work.
Balkan Erotic Epic, set to run at the Aviva Studios in Manchester, northwest England, from October 9th to 19th, draws on her Serbian heritage and the folklore of southeast Europe.
The cast, including dancers, musicians and singers, perform in 13 different scenes in a work she described as "the most ambitious work in my career".
She said: "This gives me a chance to go back to my Slavic roots and culture, look back to ancient rituals and deal with sexuality, in relation to the universe and the unanswered questions of our existence. Through this project I would like to show poetry, desperation, pain, hope, suffering, and reflect our own mortality."
