Police investigating the theft of several Renaissance paintings by Antonello da Messina from a museum in Sicily are reportedly questioning one of the four staff on duty during the heist.

An initial interrogation was paused because of "too many gaps" in their evidence with Italy's la Repubblica newspaper reporting the individual was "under investigation for making false statements to the public prosecutor".

But the newspaper reported detectives are still keeping an open mind in the case, with one theory being the employees were not involved in the crime but "simply a group of utterly incompetent individuals".

Among the evidence given by staff is a statement from one of them saying they did not hear the alarm triggered by the thieves while another guard explained they did hear it but assumed it was a false alarm and turned it off.

The raid on the museum in Messina comes six months after the Italian government paid $14.9 million for an Antonello masterpiece Ecce Homo and has caused a political outcry with the city's mayor saying it "deserves answers" about how museum security failed to prevent the theft.

A censored anti-ICE show has finally found a new home six months after being controversially closed down.

Victor 'Marka27' Quinonez's exhibition Ni de aqui, ni de alla was canceled in February a week after it opened at the University of North Texas near Dallas amid reports staff feared funding cuts if it stayed open.

A previously unknown model has finally got her due more than 50 years after posing for a portrait thanks to her son.

Manasie Ree Horn, from Mobile, Alabama, posed for photographer Kwame Brathwaite in 1972 and the resulting photograph sat without a title for decades in the collection of Washington D.C.'s National Gallery of Art until a relative saw it by chance in the Photography and the Black Arts Movement, 1955–1985 show at the Getty Center in Los Angeles.

They sent a mobile phone picture of the portrait to her son Zane who confirmed his late mother was the model and persuaded the gallery to credit her in the work.

He told Fox 10 News he was delighted to see her "get recognition after all these years".

The picture, now titled Portrait of Manasie Ree Horn with Reels as Necklace, is currently being used to advertise the show's final stop at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson just a few hours' drive from her hometown.
