Christophe Leribault is making a habit of replacing Laurence des Cars.
In 2021, he succeeded her as president of the Musee d'Orsay and now is replacing her in the hottest of hot seats running the tarnished jewel in the French cultural crown - the Louvre.
It follows her resignation yesterday - four months after $102 million worth of antique jewelry was stolen in a daylight heist.
The government used the opportunity to also announce Annick Lemoine will become president of the Orsay and the Orangerie museums following the death of her predecessor, Sylvain Amic, last August.
Leribault was a curator at the Louvre in 2006 and most recently ran the Palace of Versailles before his new appointment was confirmed in Paris today.
His inbox is full. As well as the embarrassment of the theft, the museum has been hit by staff walkouts and leaks in the building. He also has to navigate his way through a planned $1.29 billion renovation.
In remarks reported in Le Parisien newspaper, one government source said he would charged with "restoring serenity" to the Louvre. Bonne chance!
