Marina Abramovic is celebrating a landmark year with a landmark show - making history as the first living female artist to get a major exhibition at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice.

The show, Marina Abramović: Transforming Energy, runs from May 6 to October 19 next year coinciding with the Venice Biennale finishing only weeks before she turns 80

Among the exhibits in the show, curated by Shanghai’s Modern Art Museum's Artistic Director Shai Baitel, is her 1983 work Pieta (with Ulay).

The photographic work, made with her ex-partner and longtime collaborator Ulay, shows the pair arranged like religious figures in a sculpture of Jesus and Mary and will be shown next to Titian's unfinished Pieta.

The National History Museum of Romania has collected an insurance payout of $6.72 million in compensation for the theft of ancient gold treasures from a Dutch museum.

The Dacian Helmet of Cotofenesti and three gold bracelets were stolen on January 25 from the Drents Museum, where they were on loan, and have never been recovered.

Three men accused of blowing open a museum door to steal the antiquities are being held in custody and are expected to be in court again next month with a full trial scheduled for next year.

Cattelan - and Sun - made headlines last year when the businessman paid $6.24 million for his 2019 work Comedian, which consists of a banana taped to a wall. Sun later ate the banana in front of journalists at a press conference in Hong Kong.

Anyone wanting to make a quick exit from Stockholm's Moderna Museet has to wait to October 4 when the gallery unveils its latest work - a pair of spiral slides by Carsten Holler.

The slides, which descend 15 meters from the roof down to the road, are identical apart from one turns clockwise and the other counterclockwise.

Holler, who installed five huge slides in London's Tate Modern in 2006, has described the experience of sliding as a "voluptuous panic upon an otherwise lucid mind".

The Stockholm slides are expected to stay in place for at least five years.

1 - Simone Leigh's first major UK show will be at the Royal Academy in London in 2027. The artist, who was the first African American woman to represent the US at the Venice Biennale, told the Guardian newspaper she would be showing new "monumental" works at the exhibition.

3 - The daughter of painter Eric Ravilious has revealed 24 of his hard-carved woodblocks was recently saved after appearing for sale on online auction site eBay. Anne Ullmann told The Daily Telegraph they will go on show at the Towner Eastbourne art gallery in southern England which will host a permanent exhibition dedicated to the painter who died in 1942 while working as a war artist.

4 - Detroit's first contemporary art fair opens tomorrow. Season, which runs to September 28, is showing work from 11 galleries and 10 local artists who will exhibit in the city's former train station. It has evolved from the city's Art Week founded in 2018 by Amani Olu.
