The director of the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence says she needs a "team of battle-hardened lawyers" to protect the image of its most popular exhibit - Michelangelo’s David.

The Italian museum's own in-house legal team has challenged its use by everyone from a nearby shop which used a poster of David eating an ice-cream to politicians, a drainage services company and magazine publishers.

Director Andreina Contessa said cease and desist letters were "a deterrent that usually works" and told the Times of London it was because the image of the 17-foot-high statue "belongs to everyone that it cannot be used for other purposes, especially not for commercial, advertising or political purposes.”

George Lucas' new museum will have two cinemas showing films non-stop throughout the day.

The plans for the museum in Los Angeles include screenings of a specially commissioned documentary series, Seeing is Believing: The Story of Narrative Art, and documentaries about artists including Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell and Weegee, whose work is in its collection.

The cinemas are named after film pioneers Robert Flaherty, regarded as the father of documentary making, and special-effects artist and montage maker Slavko Vorkapich.

Tracey Bates, CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, said the film program would be "an essential component of a visit".

Co-founded by the Star Wars filmmaker and his wife Mellody Hobson Lucas, it opens on September 22.

The amount handed out in unrestricted cash grants to 132 artists across New York as part of an annual program operated by the state's foundation for the arts and its council on the arts.

Steve McQueen has enlisted Nina Simone and David Bowie for his latest work at Bilbao's Guggenheim museum.

The installation, 66-76-26, brings together both singers' versions of the song Wild is the Wind which was originally written for a 1957 Hollywood film of the same name.

A spokesperson for the Frank Gehry-designed museum said the "newly created" work allows "two distinct artistic voices" to "resonate across time and space and engage in a dialogue across the architecture as visitors move through the gallery".

The installation, curated by Lekha Hileman, runs from October 9 to February 21.

1 - Michael Wellen and Jose Luis Blondet will co-curate the Hammer Museum's 2027 Made in L.A. biennial. Wellen is chief curator at the museum, having previously worked at London's Tate Modern, and Blondet is senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

2 - A trio of films restored by archivists at Hong Kong's M+ museum will benefit from a captive audience later this year when they are shown as part of Cathay Pacific's inflight entertainment system. The museum is also showing newly restored landmark works from the city's film industry at its own cinema.

3 - Singapore Art Museum's chief curator Shabbir Hussain Mustafa has been appointed artistic director of the 2008 Aichi Triennale. He is only the second foreigner to run the Japanese art festival since it started in 2010 following in the footsteps of Sharjah Art Foundation chief Hoor Al Qasimi.

4 - A Wim Wenders documentary about architect Peter Zumthor, who designed the recently opened David Geffen Galleries at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will be shown at this year's Venice Film Festival. The film uses 3D to allow viewers to "experience the buildings as if they could walk around in them on their own", according to a festival spokesperson.
