Forget which auction house was up or down, one undisputed winner from last week's New York sales was Danielle Mckinney.
Four of her paintings sold - across all three main auction houses and all way above their estimates. The highest price was paid at Sotheby's when her work Stand Still fetched $279,400 - almost seven times its low estimate of $40,000.
Christie's sold her painting The Fool for $207,900 and another work Rouge for $126,000 while Phillips sold the painting, To Pretend, for $120,650, with all three having low estimates of $50,000.
New Jersey-based Mckinney started out as a photographer before moving into painting full time. There is huge demand for her work on the primary market which in turn fuels prices on the rare occasions any come to auction.
She is represented by New York’s Marianne Boesky and Max Hetzler in Europe.
