Things are anything but ACE at Arts Council England with public calls for its chair Nicholas Serota to go after a critical review of its work.
The review, by Labor politician Margaret Hodge, said the way it gave out government money to arts organizations in England was "stifling artistic innovation and creativity".
She said the organization, often known by its initials, had "sidelined" art and excellence and was in need of a "comprehensive overhaul of its systems".
The review found "a damaging climate of instability, fear, and self-censorship" among some organizations dependent on ACE funding.
Her views were echoed in the Daily Telegraph where music critic Ivan Hewett said "heads should roll" and lambasted the "messianic zeal" of the organization under Serota who spent many years in charge at Tate.
He said: "It will take years to restore that trust and repair the damage, and the essential first step is surely to sweep out the current regime."
