Billions of people around the world are celebrating the start of the Year of the Fire Horse but according to a press announcement today it might actually be the year of Anish Kapoor.
The British sculptor has announced a "year-long program" of "major solo presentations across the United States, Europe and the UK" that will continue his "exploration of space, the void, and the transformative power of materiality."
Two of the shows - at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah and the Lisson Gallery in New York - are already open with more to come including a survey at the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, Germany, and the Serlachius Museum in Mantta, Finland.
He is also opening a show in May in his Palazzo Manfrin in Venice to coincide with the biennale.
Last month, Kapoor said he wants to send a sculpture into space at the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars.
He told The Times of London his plan would strike a blow against the commercialization of cosmic exploration and revive "the early sense of adventure in space".
