Polish police are investigating after a Russian artist, who was a prominent protestor against Vladimir Putin, was gunned down in what appears to be an execution-style shooting.
Robert Kuzovkov, who was also known as Semyon Skrepetsky, was shot on the street in the Polish town of Biala Podlaska on Monday.
A police spokesman told journalists the "perpetrator's motives" were unknown but Skrepetsky made his name with satirical cartoons mocking the Russian leader and reportedly left the country five years ago to avoid persecution.
He was pictured last week in a protest outside the Russian embassy in Berlin holding a picture showing Putin as a baby being fed by the Soviet dictator Stalin.
It comes a day after 11 people were killed in Russian missile strikes on Ukraine that damaged art museums, film studios and a cathedral which is a UNESCO world heritage site in Kyiv.
