You wait ages for a sprawling new outdoor sculpture park then three come along at once.

To the UK's Goodwood Art Foundation, which opened last month, and Thailand's Khao Yai Art Forest, which opened in February, can now be added the latest project of Madrid gallery Albarran Bourdais.

Eva Albarran and Christian Bourdais started work in the rural area of Matarraña in 2010 building avant-garde homes as an architectural retreat and on Sunday they will open its accompanying 5km-long sculpture trail.

Works by Mona Hatoum, Jose Davila and Christian Boltanski will feature among the 20 monumental installations dotting the landscape in a scenic but sparsely inhabited area of Aragon in northern Spain.

Undercover police in Athens swooped on 13 members of a suspected forgery operation accused of trying to sell a fake Pablo Picasso for $28.8 million.

Officers posed as buyers to make the arrests and also recovered fakes being attributed to Jackson Pollock and Claude Monet.

Subsequent searches also uncovered fakes alleged to be by Vincent van Gogh as well as religious icons, thousands of antique coins and $76,000 in cash.

The investigation is ongoing, with charges pending for fraud, forgery and cultural heritage violations.

The number of visitors to the Anselm Kiefer and Van Gogh show in Amsterdam that ran across both the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. It opened in March and closed on June 9 with some work by both artists now traveling to London to go on show in the Royal Academy of Arts.

Two museum veterans are opening a new space in New York dedicated to video, sound and performance art.

Joseph Thompson, who ran the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) for decades, has joined financier and Whitney Museum board member Robert Rosenkranz to launch Canyon.

The building, on Broome Street on the Lower East Side, will run as a non-profit with around half the 42,000-square-foot space dedicated to audiovisual galleries.

Rosenkranz told the New York Times he hoped it would be able to take advantage of lower overheads associated with video and performance art, adding: "I do see it as potentially having an appeal to a broader audience than the audience that typically goes to museums. I see it as a date-night place."

Museums can not survive without visitors, but given some recent incidents you could forgive them for trying.

This week it was the turn of staff at the Maffei Palace in Verona to relive "every museum's nightmare" when they released CCTV footage of a visitor smashing an exhibit.

The clip, released on Instagram, showed a man posing for a picture by Nicola Bolla’s “Van Gogh” chair before sitting on it and smashing the delicate piece which is covered in hundreds of Swarovski crystals.

The museum said it released the footage "to start a real awareness campaign on the value of art and the respect it deserves".

It comes shortly after a man climbed over a fence at the museum housing China's terracotta army in Xi'an and damaged two of the ancient clay warriors.
