A multi-million dollar deal is being discussed that would see a French entertainment company buy the Swiss museum dedicated to the life and work of Charlie Chaplin.
Chaplin's World opened in the silent movie star's old home in Corsier-sur-Vevey nine years ago but has reportedly struggled in recent years with visitor numbers not recovering post-pandemic.
A statement from Museum Studio said it wanted to "strengthen the international reputation" of the museum and would look to build other sites around the world.
Born into poverty in south London, Chaplin became a worldwide star in the early days of Hollywood with his Tramp persona which was a huge influence on the Dada movement. He spent the last 25 years of his life in Switzerland.
The museum, which includes more than 4,000 sq ft of exhibition space, a film studios, reconstructed sets and archives, has had more than 1.5 million visitors since opening.
