It has been a bad few days for Washington D.C.'s National Gallery of Art.

First it announced it has had to conduct a study of the possible impact on its collection of vibrations from a planned IndyCar race in the US capital later this month and has already moved some exhibits and boarded up work by Alexander Calder and some I.M. Pei skylights for their own protection.

Then a former executive, Steven Nelson, revealed he had quit after five years partly because the gallery moved a symposium inspired by an Elizabeth Catlett exhibition to a smaller institution.

He told the New York Times he felt it was an example of "soft censorship" inspired by a meeting between gallery bosses and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency and an attempt not to provoke the White House.

The gallery has not commented.

The Filipino-American artist has just announced a major show at the Serpentine South gallery which will feature paintings made with "heat-responsive pigment" which will "change in color and reveal different shapes as they react to environmental factors such as temperature and light".

The show, which runs from October 8 to January 10, will also feature sculptures, prints and film with a small space in the back of the gallery turned into a cinema for the duration.

Denmark's ARoS museum is playing its greatest hits from next month.

The Aarhus institution is unveiling a show called Collection Favorites featuring previously seen works by the likes of Olafur Eliasson, Ron Mueck and Bill Viola.

Its director Rebecca Matthews said the show, which runs from September 12 to August 29, would include some of "the defining works" from the last two decades.

1 - A newly donated work from the collection of TV producer Dick Wolf is among the exhibits at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's latest exhibition. The Mystic Mandorla by Giovanni della Robbia features in a show about the Florentine family of Renaissance artists which opened yesterday.

3 - The Constantin Brancusi exhibition at Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie has become one of its most popular in the last six decades. More than 320,000 visitors saw the show which included more than 150 works by the sculptor - still 60,000 fewer than saw its blockbuster Gerhard Richter show in 2012.
