The continuing chaos at the Venice Biennale is certainly not putting off visitors with opening-day numbers up on 2024.
The event has no artistic director following the death of Koyo Kouoh in the run-up to its launch, no jury after they resigned in protest at the inclusion of Israel and Russia and on Friday around a quarter of its national pavilions were shut by strike action.
That was followed on Saturday when the gates opened to the public by an announcement from around half the artists involved that "in solidarity with the resignation of the jury" they did not wish to be considered for this year's prizes which are being decided by a public vote.
But what it does have is a public - around 10,000 people visited on opening day which is
10% more than 2024.
The four days of previews also saw something similar with a 4% increase on the last event with 27,935 collectors, curators and journalists in attendance.
