Christie's came out just ahead of Sotheby's after their Hong Kong sales last month, according to the HENI Auction Index.
The Christie's modern and contemporary sales made a total of $113.4 million, including $11.7 million for a Gerhard Richter work, and scored a B+ on the index which uses more than 10 metrics to measure success.
Its total number of lots was 37% below the historic average, but the share of works beating their low estimate rose 6.6 points on the historic average to 81.4%.
Sotheby's was rated a B- and made $89 million with sale highlights including a late Joan Mitchell abstract canvas, which sold for $16.5 million with fees becoming the most expensive work by a female artist to sell at auction in Asia.
Its total number of lots on offer was also down, by 34% on the average, and the percentage of works selling above their low estimate was 77.8% in line with the average.
