The Louvre is doing its Blanche DuBois act again and throwing itself "on the kindness of strangers".
It is asking the public to fund the restoration of its Sphinx courtyard to the tune of $895,000, though judging by the running total it will need a lot more kindness from a lot more strangers with only 8% of that amount raised in the first fortnight.
The Paris museum, run by director Christophe Leribault since his predecessor Laurence des Cars resigned after last year's jewelry heist, raised $1.1 million in a similar scheme in 2018.
The money raised will pay for the restoration of its leaking glass roof and repair water damage to the building.
