Pablo Picasso's Still Life with Guitar - which sparked a police hunt when it was mistakenly believed stolen - has finally gone on show in a Spanish exhibition 27 days late.

The CajaGranada Foundation said it was "pleased to announce" the work was reunited with the rest of the exhibits yesterday for the show which opened on October 9 and will stay in place for the remainder of the exhibition until January 11.

The painting, from a private collection, was only discovered missing when museum staff in Granada started unpacking exhibits and suspicion initially fell on the couriers until it emerged the package had been spotted by a concierge in Madrid who thought it was unclaimed mail and took it to their office for safe-keeping.

The show also includes work by Juan Gris and Maria Blanchard.

The number of visitors to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near Cairo on Tuesday when it opened its doors to the general public for the first time after its official launch. The museum, run by director Ahmed Ghoneim, is home to around 100,000 treasures covering thousands of years of Egyptian history.

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan has won this year's Preis der Nationalgalerie with an accompanying exhibition planned for Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie during the city's art week next September.

The jury, which included the gallery's director Klaus Biesenbach, said his themes of "power, religion, death, humor and memory" were ones that "resonate with particular force in Berlin".

It comes as Cattelan is set to make history this month when Sotheby's sells an edition of his work America - a fully functioning toilet made from more than 100 kilograms of gold. The starting price for the 18-karat work will be determined by the price of its weight in gold when the New York sale begins which is expected to be around $10 million.

His 2019 work Comedian, which consists of a banana taped to a wall, was bought for $6.2 million last year by tech entrepreneur Justin Sun who then ate it.

Filmmaker Wes Anderson is recreating Joseph Cornell's New York home studio in Gagosian's Rue de Castiglione gallery in Paris.

The Oscar winner has teamed up with curator Jasper Sharp for The House on Utopia Parkway: Joseph Cornell’s Studio Reimagined.

Largely self-taught, Cornell worked in a basement studio in the family's modest home in Queens making collages and shadow boxes filled with objects he picked up wandering the city.

Anderson's recreation features several original boxes including Pharmacy which was once owned by Marcel Duchamp and more than 300 objects and curiosities from Cornell’s own collection.

It opens on December 16 and runs to March 14.

Robert Lazzarini has revealed he was commissioned to represent the US at next year's Venice Biennale only for it to be withdrawn, according to The Washington Post.

His proposal, which included a monumental statue of the country's founding father George Washington as well as a display of American flags, was accepted by the US government only to collapse after a fundraising deal involving the University of South Florida fell apart.

He told the newspaper it had been "a tremendous honor" to be commissioned initially and said his show would have been "a timely reflection on where the nation is at this moment".

A statement from the university said it was not able to support the commission because of "the short notice of the award and the timeline to implement the project, and the multimillion-dollar philanthropic and financial obligations that were required if we accepted."

It is not clear who, if anyone, will represent the country instead of Lazzarini.

1 - Zandile Tshabalala's show Don't Let Me Fall is one of five opening tonight to coincide with the Art Cologne fair. The paintings are at Galerie Nagel Draxler until January 10 with the exhibition taking its title from a song on singer Cleo Sol’s 2021 album Mother. Other shows in the city opening tonight include one by Anton Munar.

2 - Berlin-based Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota opens her new show at New York's Templon gallery tonight. Echoes Between, which runs to January 22, uses thousands of feet of luminous thread suspended around and over two chairs.

3 - Installations, video art and sculpture all feature in the Louise Bourgeois show, Gathering Wool, at Hauser & Wirth's 22nd Street gallery in New York. Among the work are the sculptures which gave the show its name - seven wooden spheres arranged in a circle with mushrooms growing out of their cracks.

4 - The 45 photographs in the new show Diane Arbus - Sanctum Sanctorum at the David Zwirner gallery in London were taken in the decade before her death in 1971. The show, which runs from today to December 20, includes portraits of celebrities, socialites, transvestites and circus performers. It will go to the Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco next spring.

1 - A 19-year-old boy was arrested after throwing water at paintings and ripping tapestries off the walls of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to reports. Paintings by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and Girolamo dai Libri were targeted during the attack on Monday.

2 - The Art X Lagos fair opens today with work by artists including Nifemi Marcus-Bello, Sharon Walters and Stanley Arinze on show. The fair, which runs to Sunday, also includes artists talks and cinema screenings.

3 - Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Ross Calvin has unveiled plans for a 450-foot-tall statue of the Greek God Prometheus on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. He said the monument would cost around $450 million and be a "beacon of optimism".
