Call it a marriage made in medical school. The US artist Kiki Smith has long been interested in human anatomy, something that is on full display in her show at Montpellier Contemporain (MO.CO.) in France.

The exhibition combines 150 of her works made over the past four decades with an array of objects from the historic collections of the University of Montpellier’s medical school.

Founded in the 13th century, it is one of Europe’s oldest medical collections and includes scientific instruments, as well as polychrome wax and papier-mâché reproductions of organs. These are integrated into the show alongside Smith’s bronzes, drawings, photographs, and textile works that explore the body and its meanings.

Kiki Smith: Being Here | Now | Everywhere, runs through October 11.

The number of works of Islamic art and artifacts the Louvre is lending to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, as part of the Washington museum’s celebration of America’s semiquincentennial.

If you go down to the Los Angeles River by the Sixth Street Bridge, you will see a lot of construction work — and street art.

The Michael Maltzan-designed viaduct is in a “sorry state,” according to the Los Angeles Times, not least because it is already covered with graffiti. A $62m new park beneath the bridge, called, somewhat prosaically, the Sixth Street PARC (Park, Arts, River & Connectivity) Project, aims to transform the area by next year.

The linear park will link the Arts District east of downtown with the mainly Latino neighborhood of Boyle Heights but that comes with a risk. There was a backlash after a handful of galleries and non-profit spaces opened in Boyle Heights a decade ago.

Local protest groups, such as BHAAAD (Boyle Heights Alliance Against Artwashing and Displacement), opposed the gentrification of the neighborhood. The artist-run exhibition space 356 Mission, co-founded by Laura Owens, shuttered amid the protests, although its founders stressed that it had run its course.

Gavin Turk and heritage go hand in hand. For his degree show, the YBA installed a blue heritage-style plaque in an empty room at the Royal College of Art — the kind familiar on London’s grander streets — that read: “Gavin Turk, Sculptor, worked here 1989–1991.”

More than three decades on, Turk has been given the keys to the Sir John Soane Museum, which the architect created to secure his own place in history.

Next July, Turk will unveil his interventions, albeit carefully camouflaged. Next door, he plans to unveil an installation, titled Looking Glass, filled with detritus from his studio. It will echo the time capsule Soane left in his private bathtub, which contained his false teeth, receipts, and broken glass.

1 - A painting by the 19th-century folk artist Edward Hicks from his Peaceable Kingdom series sold for $1.5m at auction in late July at the Massachusetts auction house Eldred.

2 - The National Museum of Norway has discovered a painting by Clara Peeters in its collection. The new attribution will feature in its show this fall of works by 19 pioneering female artists who worked across Northern Europe and Italy between 1550 and 1650.

4 - A Russian drone destroyed an 18th-century church in southern Ukraine at the weekend. It is reported to be the country’s last remaining example of wooden Cossack architecture from that period.
