To the surprise of no-one who has been paying attention the Trump administration has given the US entry to next year's Venice Biennale a MAGA makeover.

Recently published guidelines for would-be applicants say they must promote "American values" and "not operate any programs promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion".

It comes after they published similar guidelines for a planned sculpture garden described as an "answer" to a "reckless attempt to erase our heroes, values, and entire way of life".

Concerns have also been raised about the timing of the Venice guidelines which previously gave artists 18 months from application to opening. The 2026 Biennale opens on May 9 next year.

Previous American representatives at Venice include Simone Leigh, Jeffrey Gibson and Bruce Nauman.

It never rains but it pours for the Louvre.

The Paris museum found itself in the middle of a storm in January after a letter from director Laurence des Cars begging culture minister Rachida Dati to fund desperately needed repairs was leaked to the press.

And now there has been another leak - this time a real one - and The Art Newspaper's Martin Bailey was in the building to witness it.

He reported how drips of water narrowly missed Cimabue’s painting Maestà while others landed on the base of Nicola Pisano's 13th century sculpture Three Acolytes.

France's President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to go ahead with a planned restoration of the building which could cost as much as $848 million and take years to complete.

More than 160 paintings, objects and photograms by Man Ray are heading to New York for a major show at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Man Ray: When Objects Dream is dedicated to the Surrealist artist's rayographs - his name for photograms made by putting objects on light-sensitive paper which he then exposed to light.

The resulting images, often blurred and slightly surreal looking, were described by Ray's friend Tristan Tzara as capturing "when objects dream".

The exhibition, which runs from September 14 to February 1, also includes the artist's 1923 work Object to be Destroyed - a metronome that keeps time with a pendulum featuring the swinging eye of his lover and collaborator, the photographer Lee Miller.

1 - Mara Manus is leaving her role as CEO of New York's Pioneer Works. The arts and science non-profit space was founded by artist Dustin Yellin with Gabriel Florenz who will now become executive director.

2 - The MACC (Museo d'Arte Contemporanea del Carmine in Scicli) opened to the public yesterday in Ragusa, Sicily. The inaugural show in the museum housed in a former convent features work by the Sicilian poet turned artist Emilio Isgrò.

3 - Work is underway to convert a 100,000-square-foot warehouse that has sat empty for more than a decade on San Francisco's Pier 29 into the the city's largest art studios and exhibition space. The project has been backed by a local nonprofit, Hawkins Project, run by author Dave Eggers and artist J.D. Beltran.
