Pop artist Rosalyn Drexler has died aged 98.
Her death on Wednesday was announced by New York’s Garth Greenan Gallery which represents her.
In a tribute posted online, the gallery said she had continued to paint prolifically throughout the last years of her life.
Drexler, who wrestled under the name Rosa Carlo the Mexican Spitfire before picking up a paintbrush, is known for her images of Hollywood stars and preoccupation with violence and gender issues.
Her work found new admirers towards the end of her life with a major retrospective at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Massachusetts in 2016.
She was also a published playwright and novelist and among her books was the novelization of Sylvester Stallone's Oscar-winning boxing saga Rocky.
