India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants a museum bigger than the Hermitage and the Louvre and it looks like he may get what he wants.
New Delhi's $3 billion Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum (YYBM), whose name comes from the Sanskrit for "everlasting India", will be home to as many as 30,000 artifacts spread across 950 rooms.
Work has already begun on the redevelopment to transform the Secretariat buildings in India's capital which were the seat of power during British rule and post-independence but have now been replaced by modern government buildings.
The Ministry of Culture said work was also underway to develop a plan for the institution that is “historically accurate, accessible, and aligned with the larger vision” of the museum which is expected to get around 10 million visitors a year.
