The organizers of Larry Bell's exhibition in New York's Madison Square Park estimate around 64,000 people will walk past it every day and that is not including the rats, squirrels and pigeons expected to visit the colored cubes and glass shapes.
Bell says he is not worried about the potential animal audience for his work, which was unveiled yesterday, telling the New York Times: "What you’ve got is what you’ve got, and what happens to it is what happens to it."
In his artist's statement for the show, called Improvisations in the Park, he said the location will give the work "new life", adding: "Spread across the lawns, the panels reflect the trees, sky, and people passing by. They enter into a dialogue with their surroundings, absorbing energy and meaning."
The works are on show until March 15.
