Move over Christie's, stand aside Sotheby's - the US Marshals Service is getting into the auction business.
It is currently selling off four works - two by Jean-Michel Basquiat and one each by Picasso and Diane Arbus - surrendered to the US Department of Justice during its investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
The scandal and subsequent investigation into corruption, bribery and money laundering in Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund have seen assets including art, a yacht and an Oscar statuette seized with billions of dollars repaid to the country.
The sale, run online by a Texan auction house, closes on September 4 and there is no buyer's premium on any of the works but bidders need a $5,000 deposit to take part.
At the time of writing, the top lot was Basquiat's 1982 work Red Man One which had attracted a bid of $2.9 million.
