Zhang Daqian, In Search of Paradise (1981) sold for $1.84m (HKD14.29m), more than the low estimate at Christie's in Hong Kong on May 1.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $1.07m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 2012 for $776,600 at Christie's.
Ink and colour on paper, 109.0 x 54.5cm. The work has not been traded before.
