The William Morris Gallery in London will host 'Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK', a significant touring exhibition scheduled from 3 October 2026 to 28 March 2027. This exhibition will explore the intersection of art, activism, and alternative living across two centuries in Britain, tracing how individuals and groups have envisioned and enacted radical ways of life.
The exhibition features a diverse range of artists and figures, including William Morris, Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Cedric Morris, Derek Jarman, Tom Hunter, Penny Rimbaud, Gee Vaucher, Martin Parr, and Sunil Gupta. It incorporates various media such as objects, painting, drawing, photography, sound, and archival material. Key themes include utopian visions, domestic life, the Arts and Crafts movement, and various forms of activism, encompassing housing, feminism, and anti-racist movements.
Following its presentation at the William Morris Gallery, 'Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK' will tour to Tŷ Pawb, Blackwell – The Arts & Crafts House, and Dovecot Studios. Support for the exhibition has been provided by organisations including Art Fund, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Julia Rausing Trust, and The Ampersand Foundation.
