Willem de Kooning, Untitled (1972), sold for $857,600, more than the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 15.
The sale was below the previous auction result by $57,200, realizing a 6% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2006 for $914,800 at Christie's.
