A work by Werner Bronkhorst was the headline sale at Phillips Modern & Contemporary auction on July 16 in New York.
From Every Corner (2026) sold for $283,800, 183% above its $100,000 low estimate. The unique soccer-inspired work by the South Africa-born, Australia-based artist had not been traded before.
Bronkhorst is best known for his distinctive mixed-media works that often feature miniature figures set against abstract, thickly impastoed backgrounds, often inspired by sports fields.
