Vincent van Gogh, In de Duinen (In the Dunes) (1883) sold for $4.04m, more than twice the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 12.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $2.24m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 2014 for $1.8m at Christie's.
