Matthew Marks Gallery will host "Vija Celmins: Prints 1983 to 1985," an exhibition showcasing the artist's printmaking work created between these years. The presentation will run from May 1 to June 27, 2026, at the gallery's 526 West 22nd Street space.
The exhibition will feature a range of prints, employing techniques such as engraving, drypoint, woodcut, mezzotint, and aquatint. Celmins's output from this period includes her characteristic renderings of ocean surfaces, night skies, and airplanes. Also featured will be her interpretations of a Marcel Duchamp sculpture.
Celmins, recognized for her meticulous approach to depicting natural phenomena and found objects, has been the subject of numerous institutional exhibitions. Her work is held in collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Fondation Beyeler, and the Centre Pompidou, among others.
The exhibition will be on view Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
