The international jury set to award the Golden Lion at the next Venice Biennale has resigned on the eve of the prestigious exhibition’s opening week—an unprecedented move.

The five members announced their decision in a social media post on April 30, indirectly referencing their intention to exclude the pavilions of Russia and Israel.

The jury was led by Brazilian curator Solange Oliveira Farkas and included Zoe Butt, Elvira Dyangani Ose, Marta Kuzma, and Giovanna Zapperi.
