What to See in Turin During Art Week: Mary Heilmann in Full Color, Salvo on a High

Artissima returns to Oval Lingotto this week (October 31-November 3), coinciding with Turin Art Week. Beyond the arena where the fair takes place, which is near the Pinacoteca Agnelli, the art gallery on the roof of Fiat’s former car factory, there are many more must-see exhibitions in the city’s art spaces. Here is our pick of the top seven shows and venues to check out.

GAM presents "Mary Heilmann", October 30 - 16 March 16, 2025

Salvo: Arrivare in tempo / Arriving on time” is an extensive show dedicated to the Italian artist whose colorful paintings have been causing a stir at auction lately. The exhibition features 180 works, with Salvo’s paintings shown alongside works by Matisse among others. On view November 1-May 25, 2025.

Mary Heilmann gets her first retrospective in Italy at GAM (Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea). The exhibition includes the veteran US artist’s early abstract paintings from the 1970s and her signature armchairs. On view October 30 to March 16, 2025.

"Nam June Paik: Rabbit Inhabits the Moon” includes 17 works by the trailblazing South Korean artist, along with installations by six contemporary Korean artists at MAO, Turin’s Museum of Oriental Art. Until March 23, 2025.

Cyprien Gaillard’s solo exhibition "Retinal Rivalry" is presented by Turin's OGR, the former railway repair works turned contemporary art space. It will feature Nightlife, a three-dimensional, film installation, co-commissioned by the Fondation Beyeler. October 30-February 2, 2025.

Tina Modotti. L’opera” at Camera, the Italian Center for Photography, traces the adventurous life of the Italian actor turned avant-garde photographer who died at only 46, having moved to the US, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Spain and then back to Mexico. On view until February 2, 2025.

Mark Manders' solo show, Stefanie Heinze’s first institutional solo show, and work by Bekhbaatar Enkhtur, winner of the illy Present Future 2023 award, are on view at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo's city center space, from October 31.

Gabriel Orozco’s monumental installation, Shade Between Rings of Air (2003) is due to be unveiled at Castello di Rivoli on October 31. As well as this recent acquistion, the Modern and contemporary art museum 20 miles east of Turin presents a major group show, “Mutual Aid – Art in Collaboration With Nature”.
