Titian, Portrait of a nobleman, seated before a window sold for $4.71m (GBP3.43m), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on July 1.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $4.51m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 1981 for $197,600 at Sotheby's.
