Theodore Gericault, A sleeping fishmonger (Le marchand de poissons endormie), sold for $69,800, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in New York on February 5.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $37,900, equivalent to an annualized return of 2%. It last sold at auction in 1997 for $32,000 at Christie's.
