Taddeo Gaddi, Saint Matthew - pinnacle to the San Giovanni Fuorcivitas Polyptych sold for $554,100 (GBP403,200), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on July 1.
The sale was below the previous auction result by $165,900, realizing a 23% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2003 for $720,000 at Sotheby's.
