Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam will present a major Yayoi Kusama retrospective of the prolific Japanese artist's seven-decade career. Featuring work across various media, the show is due to open on September 11, and running until January 17, 2027.

The exhibition will trace her career from her early works in Matsumoto, Japan, to her radical creations and happenings in New York in the 1960s, and her most recent productions from Tokyo.

The show will explore her engagement with themes such as infinity, self-obliteration, and repetition, frequently manifested through her signature polka dots and immersive mirror room installations.

Rein Wolfs, the Stedelijk's director, says: "Even at her advanced age, she continues to captivate audiences, drawing in visitors of all generations with her mesmerizing creations."

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Fondation Beyeler, where it opened in 2025, and Cologne's Museum Ludwig, where it heads in 2027 after closing in Amsterdam.
