Sotheby's New York will present "A New Vista: The David and Shoshanna Wingate Collection," a series of sales of modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, and design.

The collection features artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Diego Giacometti, Mark Rothko, Wassily Kandinsky, Roy Lichtenstein, and Varvara Stepanova.

Highlights include Giacometti’s La Clairière (Composition avec neuf figures), which has a $18m-$25m estimate.

David Wingate was a businessman and Shoshanna an artist. They met in Israel and emigrated to the US in 1953 and met Edith Halpert, the founder of Downtown Gallery, who helped start them on the road to collecting.

Works from the collection will be on view at Sotheby's New York starting May 2.

The Wingate Collection day auction is scheduled for May 20. Select pieces will also be integrated into the modern evening auction on May 19, the design auction and the marquee evening auction in June, and the contemporary discoveries auction in July,
