Sarah Lucas Sculpture Inaugurates New Museum Public Plaza

On May 12, 2026, the New Museum launched its new outdoor public plaza with the unveiling of VENUS VICTORIA, a site-specific sculpture by artist Sarah Lucas. This marks the first commission for the space, located at Bowery and Prince Street.

Lucas's VENUS VICTORIA is a biomorphic sculpture, extending her characteristic exploration of the human form and everyday objects into the public realm. The installation will remain on view for a two-year period, offering a sustained engagement with her work in an urban context.

This public art initiative underscores the New Museum's commitment to presenting contemporary art beyond its galleries. The project was organized by Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director, and Madeline Weisburg, Curatorial Assistant. Support for the commission was provided by the William "Beau" Wrigley Jr. Foundation, the Deborah Buck Foundation, and Åke and Caisa Skeppner.
