Safeya Binzagr, Coffee Shop in Madina Road (1968) sold for $2.06m, more than 13 times the low estimate at Sotheby's in Saudi Arabia on January 31. The oil on board work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $1.93m, a 1400% rise.
