S.M.A.K. in Ghent is set to present 'Unearthed Conversation', a new exhibition by artists Francisca García and Mario Navarro. The exhibition will run from April 3 to September 13, 2026, offering a sustained engagement with their recent work.

The exhibition delves into complex thematic areas, including archaeology, science, and political history. García and Navarro's work specifically engages with subjects such as Chango culture and the legacy of Pinochet's dictatorship, reflecting a commitment to examining sociopolitical narratives through their practice.

In related news, Samuel Saelemakers commenced his role as the new Head of Programming, Collection and Research at S.M.A.K. in March 2026. Saelemakers brings experience from his previous positions at the Middelheim Museum and the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art (now Kunstinstituut Melly), a background that aligns with S.M.A.K.'s contemporary art focus.

His appointment signals a continued emphasis on rigorous curatorial direction at the institution, which has previously featured artists such as Kasper Bosmans, Douglas Coupland, Camille Henrot, and Goshka Macuga within its exhibition program.
