London's Royal Academy of Arts present the first UK exhibition dedicated to the 17th-century painter Michaelina Wautier, which will also include works by her brother Charles and her contemporary Peter Paul Rubens.

A pioneering female Flemish painter, Michaelina Wautier's work included portraits, genre scenes, and historical works, primarily executed in oil on canvas. Her ambitious compositions often challenged artistic conventions of her era.

The exhibition will position Wautier's work within the broader context of Flemish art in the baroque period.

It culminates with Wautier’s monumental canvas, The Triumph of Bacchus (about 1655-59), which will be on loan from the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
