The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, located at the University of Notre Dame, has announced its extensive programming for April and May. The schedule includes a variety of art-making workshops, guided tours, and performances, designed to engage visitors with visual art, poetry, and music. Initial events are slated to take place between Tuesday, April 7, and Friday, April 10.
Highlights of the programming feature engagements with notable artists and authors. Works by James Balog and Maya Lin will be presented in conjunction with Earth Month, exploring themes of sustainability and water-centric creations. Poetic expressions will be central to several events, including contributions from Indiana Poet Laureate Curtis Crisler focusing on sonastic and ekphrastic writing, and discussions with theologian and poet Pádraig Ó Tuama on creative thinking and well-being. The museum will also host sessions dedicated to Visio Divina and meditative reflection.
The diverse offerings encompass visual and verbal literacy, showcasing the museum's permanent collection alongside temporary exhibitions. Attendees can expect to encounter a range of mediums, from photography and digital pigment prints by Balog, to sculpture by George Rickey and Lin, and oil on canvas works by Joshua Reynolds. Curator-led tours will provide insights into European, American, Modern, and Contemporary art. Musical performances by the Fischoff Chamber Music Academy will further enrich the experience, presenting instrumental works that complement the visual arts.
